Minipilot testing, generally performed at flowrates between 10-1000 mL/min, can provide much information gained at pilot scale (solution recycling, cycle studies, bulk material processing, etc) at a fraction of the cost because the equipment is still relatively small and the testing can be performed in a laboratory setting.
